Political Cartoon # 3

Cartoon can be seen at this site but i'll try and describe it for you as well http://www.cagle.com/politicalcartoons/pccartoons/archives/bagley.asp?Action=GetImage : George W. Bush is planning out his presidential library on the big sheet in front of him while leaving important issues, the little papers under the blue print, behind like our current recession, the record job losses, and many companies commiting bankruptcy.
This cartoon was the first one I saw and there was no doubt that I would analyze it for this week's current event. To me it summarizes this time period where he is still the president but Obama, as the president elect, is getting plenty of attention in the media. With this said, Bush seems to be chillin in the background probably doing just this, planning out his presidential library. In the cartoon his blue print includes a "decider room" a "vomitorium", and a "stachoo of me". All these mispellings and hilarious names are picking fun at Bush and what he has done in the past eight years that have caught America's attention. I know this whole changing presidents thing must be kind of awkward for any president in transition, but come on Bush, you're still president for another month and there are things to do...step up son!!! :) But people will be people and times will pass. I just hope Obama, since he will have four years, can do what's right and help fix our nation's problems so we can better life for all Americans.

political cartoon #2

This week I learned to get my cartoon of the internet so that I can post a picture. My success worked and now everyone can actually see what i'm talking about. Isn't it lovely?!?!
So I thought this cartoon was pretty hilarious because of what the Clinton family has been through when Bill was president. If you can't read it....Hilary: "It's an honor to be asked to serve as secretary of state..." and Bill: "I'll handle the foreign affairs..." (as a side note, there are hearts all around the word 'affairs'. This hints to the readers that it is an important word relating to Bill's affair with Monica.) Now back on track...okay so this cartoon is basically playing on the fact that Bill seems to feel that he is in the spot light even though he wasn't the one elected as secretary of state. In a way he is living through his wife and her position in our nation. I feel that this cartoon will become more of a reality as Obama is innaugurated and him and his cabinet start working together more frequently. Someone needs to tell Bill to but out and that he had his time. :)

Final Election Blog!

It's time for predictions! Okay so here's what i'm thinking for the presidential race...Obama has definitely held strong. Unlike McCain he has made it clear to the nation what he stands for and how he is going to approach issues like the war in Iraq and our economy. Also, he has been a strong fighter throughout the campaign always finding a new way to get his name out there to the public. For this reason I predict that Obama will be our next president winning the Electoral College votes 413: 230. He has won over most of the big impact states like CA and is up in the polls in FL. For the popular vote this is hard to tell considering people are predicting we will have a record turnout. I do know that the 2004 popular vote totaled 121,056,394 voters with a 64% voter turn out. So, based on these numbers I am again predicting Obama's win 93,792,296 votes to 31,264,099 votes for McCain.
For the VA Senate it is a race between Mark Warner (D) and Jim Gilmore (R). I am predicting that the Democrats will once again pull through with a win; in this case a landslide. As of now, Mark Warner is up in the polls by about 30 points. Warner has been a successful governor in the past with a great positve in fluence in the Northern Virginia region. In this way he is favored as the incumbent candidate.
For the local House races there are two local regions:
10th: Frank Wolf (R) vs. Judy Feder (D). Mr. Wolf is the incumbent candidate who was elected in 1980 to serve this district. He is running for his 15th term with much experience. In particular, for Fairfax County he worked on important issues such as transportation, education, and gang violence. For these reasons and more I feel that the community is comfortable with him and that he will secure the majority of votes. Judy Feder on the other hand was a Georgetown University program dean but was heavily favored in her party's primary.
11th: Keith Fimian (R) vs. Gerry Connolly (D). Honestly, I am not to informed about this race, but here is what I found...The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, Connolly, is heavily fovored against the unknown businessman, Fimian. But, Fimian has huge sums of money on his side which could make this race closer than many have been expecting. Based on these facts, I would like to think money doesn't buy a candidate votes and that the voters will look at more than just wealth. For this I am predicting Connolly as the victor.

Current Event #6

Recent polls show Obama is leading over McCain. It is predicted that as the days grow closer, the gap with start closing in and the polls with equalize. This is scary for Obama and I hope that McCain's lack of campaigning and advertising will have an effect on the election results.
THE END!

Election Post #5 (almost done!)
Ohio and Florida seem to still be up in the air with who they support. These are crucial states because they have a large impact with the electoral college. Ohio with 20 electoral votes and Florida with 27. Here's the run down:
~FLORIDA~
In 2004 Bush on this state by a mere 5 points and McCain assumes he can pull through. On the other hand, Obama has competed fiercely here and knows what's up. As of now, Obama is slightly leading with a 48.6% and McCain is trailing with a 46.6%.
~OHIO~
Again, in 2004 Bush won this state, but the Republicans have severe losses here such as in the governor's race. Obama has been having a hard time picking up supporters, but he again is slightly ahead with a 48.3%. McCain holds a 45.5%.
In the end, my predictions are that McCain will win both these states' support. In Florida, the popular Rebublican governor and appeal of Senator Joe Lieberman are all backing McCain giving him the boost he needs. There is no word of any Democratic support. In Ohio, Obama had a hard time attracting the white, working class voters' support in the primaries. Considering Ohio is a big, industrial state, there is little hope that he can pull through, but I wish him the best of luck.
Only a few more weeks to go!!!!
